UPDATE: SUCCESS!
What a great time all had at the first ever Filmmaking and Photography Boot Camp! Check out the video we collectively produced as our final project. Click on the image below:
Do you have an interest in filmmaking and photography? This four-day crash course will lead you through many of the basics, as well as some intermediate and advanced photo and video topics. Welcome to Boot Camp!
We start with hands-on workshops led by award winning WC staff and the team of Paul and Holly Fine, recipients of 4 Peabody awards, 75 local and 10 national Emmy awards.
With an arsenal of photo and video gear and newly acquired production skills, we’ll spend the second day venturing out by land and water to capture the events of all four pre-orientation sessions.
On days three and four, we’ll return to the labs to process the photos and video using state-of-the-art equipment and lab space. You’ll edit your own mini documentary films and photo spreads, which we will then combine collaboratively into a group presentation. This final video will be premiered before all the pre-orientation attendees on the final night.
In between all the creative opportunities, you’ll have lots of social events and activities provided by Echo Hill camp and WC staff. It’s a great balance of hands-on learning and good times with your new fellow classmates. In addition to new friendships, you’ll walk away with multimedia skills that will give you an edge throughout your college career and even post graduation!
This program is limited to the first twelve participants; first come, first-served. Cost is $220 (covers meals, accommodations, transportation, materials, and all activities). Many consider this a once in a lifetime opportunity for students, because the program is currently only available to incoming first year and transfer students. Additionally, once students have begun their busy regular semester schedule, it's nearly impossible to dedicate a 4 day block of time to an intensive workstop like this without conflicting with individual academic schedules.
Note, the schedule show at left is preliminary and may be subject to change.
This event has passed. Please stay tuned for infomation about a 2009 Boot Camp.
After July 1, the registration form will be available on the First Year Students Forms and Resources page. General information about all the Pre-Orientation Trips can be found here.
