Overview of Program

Do you have an interest in filmmaking and photography? This four and a half day crash course will lead you from the basics through intermediate and advanced photo and video topics. Welcome to the Multimedia Production Center’s Boot Camp!

After you get moved in and meet everyone on Saturday, we will hit the ground running on Sunday morning with hands-on workshops, led by award winning WC staff and upperclassmen.  After taking our introductory video production and photography workshops, we will split up into groups to offer intermediate and advanced training for topics in which you are most interested.  Based on our experiences, we will decide on our personal and group goals for the rest of boot camp.

You will have options that include, but are not limited to, short film skits, documentary filmmaking, creating shorts for video competitions, photo tours and excursions, creating photo essays, photo studio and on-location lighting experiments, introduction to stock photography, etc.

After planning and executing your photo and video shoots, we will utilize the state-of-the-art lab space to edit and enhance your video and photos, and provide feedback to help you continue to grow.  Final videos will be burned to archival DVD for your demo reel, as well as be posted online for sharing with your peers.  Photographers will create multimedia presentations and produce large (from 8"x10" up to 17"x22") prints for their portfolios and personal exhibitions.

During the week, we will be spending time on the Chester River aboard the college’s pontoon boat. It’s a great platform for practicing your shooting skills, while enjoying the sun and water.

To wrap up the final day, we’ve got an exciting sail aboard the Schooner Woodwind planned in Annapolis, competing in the Wednesday Night Regattas against an identical Schooner. We’ll have lots of opportunities to photograph and film the 120 sail boats that are racing in the weekly regatta, as well as shoot the action aboard. Cost per person is $275.00 Many consider this a once in a lifetime opportunity for students, because the program is currently only available to incoming first year and transfer students. Additionally, once students have begun their busy regular semester schedule, it's nearly impossible to dedicate a 4 1/2 day block of time to an intensive workstop like this without conflicting with individual academic schedules.

Note, the schedule show at left is preliminary and may be subject to change.
