Create a video for this challenge, and compete for $9000.00 in prizes!

Your best friend from home chose to attend another college and she’s still never visited you in Chestertown. Share the WAC you know and love in a video short and show her what she’s missing! Make a movie that communicates what makes Washington College special to you. Note, you don't have to take a literal approach to the challenge. Be creative, and show us what your WAC experience is about, and why you love it!

Contestants are competing for cash prizes to be awarded to the top three videos that best capture the essence of “WAC.”  The winning videos will be posted on the College’s Web site.

New ways to participate: You can still enter as an individual or small independent group, but now you have more options.  Are you looking for funding for your SGA club, Greek organization, Athletic team, Dorm, etc?  If you are an officially recognized WAC organization, you can register so that winnings are transferred right to your budget!  As before, you are still able to enter multiple videos, and participate on multiple teams.  Increase your odds of winning!

Team leaders must be current Washington College students. Each team may submit multiple entries if they please. Judges will narrow down the list of entries based on both the quality of the content and the production value. The final decision will be decided by a public poll. In the event of a tie, the video with the most individual views will be awarded the prize. The MPC reserves the right to modify these rules at any point, as we see necessary.

Videos are due on MiniDV tape (native DV format) by 12:00 Noon on February 27, 2009. Each entry should clearly include team leader's name, as well as production team members names. If you submit multiple entries, you can include them on the same tape, if they are all from the same team.

Videos must be submitted to Brian Palmer, Manager of the Multimedia Production Center. Brian's office is located adjacent to Beck Lab in Miller Library.

Here are a few guidelines:

  • Keep it under three minutes.
  • Please, no drinking. No drugs.
  • Please, no profanities.  Likewise, lose the t-shirts advertising your best friend’s college.
  • NOTE: Please make sure your creation is legal to post online for judging and viewing. That means, utilize only soundtracks and imagery you have permission to broadcast. Simply buying a track from iTunes does not give you rights to broadcast it! Want to find some tracks that are legal to utilize? Currently, there is still a sizeable amount of money remaining in the budget, which you can request for purchasing an audio track! Contact Brian Palmer if you are interested in doing this! Here are a few places to start:

Give your creativity free rein, but if you need some inspiration, consider these prompts:

  • Go to class. Go to lunch. Go fishing.
  • Promote your band. Promote your club. Promote your professor.
  • Look around. Look back. Look ahead.

Available budget

Need some dough to pull off your production? An anonymous alumnus has graciously donated $1000.00 to help you make your videos truly amazing. To request a portion of this budget, submit a budget request form by October 13 at 12:00 Noon. Forms must be dropped off in person at his office, adjacent to Beck Lab in Miller Library.

We'll go through the budget request forms and rank them in order of preference, based on who would best use the money, and how likely the are of executing the plan as intended. Once the $1000 is gone, no further funding will be awarded.

Recipients of the funding will be announced on October 14 at 1:00PM
